These striking gathered lampshades, made from hand-woven cotton in rich saffron with beautiful blue stripes, bring a joyful warmth and vibrancy to any interior. Each one captures the essence of Keralan craftsmanship; timeless, elegant, and full of character.
Our Keralan cotton shades are made ethically from the finest hand loomed saris, traditionally cream or white with contrasting borders often in gold (kasavu), worn during Kerala’s Onam or Harvest Festival. The colours and textures of these fabrics celebrate both heritage and artistry, blending cultural tradition with contemporary design.
We source our cotton from small weaving workshops in northern Kerala, near Kannur - a region with a long and proud history of handloom weaving. Many of these workshops are sadly under pressure from mechanised production, so each lampshade helps to support and preserve this invaluable craft.
Available in 40cm and 45cm sizes, these lampshades are well suited to medium and larger lamp bases, allowing the bold saffron and blue stripes to be fully appreciated. They are pictured here with the Glass Jelly Lamp Base, whose simple, sculptural shape provides a clean contrast to the richness of the hand-woven fabric.
