Kokeshi Dolls

Kokeshi dolls are traditional wooden figures that have been made in Japan for over 150 years. Originally created as children’s toys, their appeal lies in their beautifully simple form, with no arms or legs and a gently rounded head set on a cylindrical body.

Each doll is crafted from wood and finished with fine, hand-painted lines to suggest the face. The body is typically decorated with floral or ring motifs in red, black and, at times, touches of green, purple, blue or yellow, before being sealed with a soft layer of wax that enhances the natural grain of the wood.

These Kokeshi dolls measure approximately 25cm in height and 5-6cm in width, making them a quietly striking decorative piece as well as a nod to Japanese craft tradition.
