Kilims or flat weaves are not knotted, but are generally woven by hand by nomadic tribes in Turkey, the Caucasus, Iran, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan. These handmade kilims are from Balochistan and consist of a mixture of goat and sheeps wool which make them extremely hard wearing. They were originally used as blankets or to decorate the floor of nomad tents.
