Assam Collection

In 2019 I visited North Eastern India and travelled through the states of Assam and Nagaland. This part of India is less developed than the rest of the country and is home to some wonderful artisanal traditions.

During my travels, I was introduced to a group of women in Assam who are supported by the Tata Trust to develop their weaving skills and take their products to a wider market. It’s been quite a journey since then, as they have battled through floods and the ravages of Covid, but we are so thrilled with the results.

This range of lampshades is made from beautifully hand-woven cotton and comes in three colourways on cream – teal, sage green and pink. The smaller sizes come with a fine stripe of colour, while the larger sizes feature three bold bands, giving each piece a distinct rhythm and character.

Each hand woven lamp shade in the Assam Collection celebrates the artistry and perseverance of these talented women weavers. Working on traditional looms in their own homes along the banks of the Brahmaputra River, they create cloth that is not only beautiful but full of life, history, and purpose. Our Indian lampshades from Assam are available in sizes from 25 cm to 50 cm, with both E27 and duplex fittings, allowing them to suit a range of interior spaces and lamp bases. They are available in a palette that feels both fresh and timeless – soft colours inspired by nature, the landscape and the textiles of the region itself.

The texture of the handwoven cotton gives these shades a gentle translucence, creating a warm, inviting light that feels soft and natural.
