We now stock quite a large collection of hand-block printed lampshades on cotton voile, and we have selected eight designs which we really love and will continue to reproduce.

Block printing was introduced to Rajasthan - specifically Jaipur - by the Chhipa community and has been practised for over 500 years. The village of Bagru was at the heart of the industry and remains famous for its vegetable dye and mud resist (dabu) block prints. The art of block printing is passed through successive generations, and Sanganer, to the south of Jaipur, has become the centre of more recent types of block printing where they tend to use AZO-free pigment dyes.

In both Bagru and Sanganer, you can still see the printers at work at their long tables, thumping the blocks onto the cloth and creating intricate, multicoloured patterns which have become loved the world over. There is a rhythm and beauty in this process - every impression slightly different, each lampshade carrying the unmistakable mark of the human hand.

Our Bagru Collection includes a beautiful range of Indian block print lampshades in sizes from 15 cm to 60 cm, with fittings available for clip-on, duplex, E27 and pendant styles. Each shade is made from either block printed cotton or handwoven cotton, carefully chosen for its texture, tone, and ability to diffuse light softly throughout a room.

These gathered and pleated lampshades are available in a variety of colours - from the deep indigo blues and earthy browns so typical of Rajasthan’s natural dyes, to gentle neutrals and warm tones of pink, red, yellow, and green. Whether you are looking to create a calm, natural atmosphere or introduce a bold splash of colour, each design brings its own personality and charm.

Every block print lampshade in this collection tells a story of heritage and craftsmanship - from the wooden blocks carved by hand, to the cloth stretched and printed in the soft morning light of Rajasthan. These are not mass-produced pieces, but the result of skill, patience, and artistry passed down through generations.
