Naga Hat 006
Naga Hat 006
Part of our collection from Nagaland we just love these ceremonial tribal hats. Conical in shape each one is unique. Made from woven bamboo and adorned with shells, pieces of embroidery, etc.
Nagaland in the far North East of India is home to 16 separate tribes. The state has long had a reputation for tribal warfare and there is evidence of headhunting until as late as the 1960's. Each tribe celebrates the passing of the seasons and gives thanks for the fruits of the earth with a festival at which the tribespeople adorn themselves in traditional costume. These hats, apart from being worn at ceremonial dances are also used as shelter from the sun and rain. We think they make fabulous decorative pieces.
Each hat comes on an iron display stand.
